Katja Nagel is a Greek and German artist, born in Munich in 1963 and raised in Athens.

– She holds a doctorate in Business Administration, is the managing director of the renowned change management consultancy cetacea, author of 6 specialist books and numerous specialist articles each year, former guest lecturer at Ludwig Maximilian University, top management consultant – and mother of three children.

Since her youth, art has been a passion to which she has always devoted herself. Even though she decided against studying art after graduating from high school, she has always been artistically active over the years. In the process, she has engaged in sculpture, designed and “forged“ pieces of jewelry, experimented with clay work and innovative glazes, designed furniture and built it in cooperation with craftsmen, and also experimented with oil painting. Since 2022, she has devoted herself to painting with acrylics. In the process, she has developed her own unique style. Her works radiate power and high intensity with strong colors and stand for positivity, joy and beauty.

When the artist succeeds in bringing a smile to the viewer‘s face, she has succeeded in passing on a little of her cheerfulness and lightness, her optimism, her joy in life and her strength to the viewer through her paintings.

Why are you painting?

– We don‘t see things as they are, but as we feel them. I believe that every human being has a strong emotional component and power in their being. power in their being, it‘s just that we are socialized and civilized so that we don‘t always perceive it in ourselves, let alone consciously draw strength from it.

With my painting, I would like to make a contribution so that we become more aware of the beautiful, the joyful and the powerful (perhaps also the comforting), so that we become involved in it – so that life always gives rise to an inner experience. That an inner experience emerges from life again and again. I am inspired by the beauty and joy and power of all life. And because all this arises within us, is our feelings, and is a journey to ourselves, I would like to invite you, with my paintings, to find – and see – the extraordinary, even in everyday shapes, in everyday life. I am happy if I can take one or the other viewer with me on this journey.

And precisely because I have been at home in the rational (and emotional) business world for decades, especially in the world of transformations, and have made my way there, I find it wonderful to keep breaking new ground myself. Art and painting have occupied me since my youth as something I would like to live out more. The time has come.

Why Aegeo?

– Aegeo is the Greek word for Aegean. And perhaps this bridge-building is also so destined for me personally because I carry two such contrasting cultures within me: German and Greek. And because my heart belongs to Greece, this first cycle is dedicated to Aegeo, to the Mediterranean, but also to the Greek mythology that I associate with my works.

In this respect, there is also this explicit connection in each painting, a conscious alteration of Greek mythology. But, of course, I am just as happy if the viewer finds in one of my works what is beautiful, joyful and powerful for him.

„Deep breaths to dive into the deep blue of the sea – the subconscious – where the origin of artist awaits, the blue of the Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea, the orange of the Earth… Patterns that intertwine to create living beings that are at home in the sea and inspire dreams and imagination.“

„The painter follows instinct and memory (intentionally or not) to create another reality in the space of the canvas, where she lives alone without external influences. She switches gears, descends vertically to the bottom of the sea, subconsciously, to meet her self. There she is with herself, uncovering archaic symbols. Motifs reaching the archaic instinct where we meet the other culture. Thus, her art can become global, can exist everywhere, anywhere.”

Questions & Answers

How do you paint?

– I particularly enjoy painting in this row directly by the sea, with a view of the water and the sound of the waves – but imagination and creativity do not need a special environment, but rather the urgent desire to create. My colors are acrylic, my ground is canvas, my formats are very diverse. As diverse as the world we live in.
